Barbara McClintock is a distinguished cytogeneticist, a scientist who studies the formation and development of cells. This site tells of her many important discoveries in the field of genetics. She received many awards including the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, awarded to her in 1983 for the discovery of genetic transposition. She is the only woman to receive an unshared Nobel Prize in that category!
